PRIDE OF YOKOSUKA
Exhibition of Souvenir Jacket "Sukajyan"

2022 Sat November 19 〜 2022 Sun December 25

Closed: Mon Dec 5

Originally created as souvenir jackets for members of the American military, these jackets connected over time with Yokosuka’s distinctive culture, and a fashion item named after Yokosuka emerged: the Sukajan. This deeply popular Yokosuka original’s name, Sukajan, is a combination of Yokosuka’s “suka” and “jan” from janpaa, a Japanese word for jacket. The core of this exhibition is TAILOR TOYO “TOYO ENTERPRISE CO., LTD.” exceptional vintage souvenir jacket “sukajan”collection.
The exhibition offers a comprehensive view of the fascinating sukajan, which is presently attracting considerable attention on the global fashion scene. It also introduces Dobuita Street, a nickname for the area in Yokosuka with rows of souvenir shops directed at the American military, as it was shortly after the war, through a variety of souvenirs, photographs, and other reference materials.
